The "What's the Risk?" Segment

About the segment:
This students shown in this segment are second-year medical students enrolled in a PBL curriculum. This segment occurred late in the group's second meeting on this case that involved an adolescent female patient presenting with a complaint of abdomenal pain. Immediately prior to the beginning of this segment, Joel (the student seated to the right of the tutor) asserts that ordering a CT (Computerized-Axial Tomography) scan is standard practice in cases of this kind. As the segment begins, Patrick (the student seated at the far end of the table) questions whether or not this might pose a health risk to the patient.

An analysis of this session was prepared by Timothy Koschmann, Philip Glenn, and Melinda Conlee and published in Medical Education Online.
