Title: Maternal Fetal Medicine

Description
:
The student will function as an acting intern for the antepartum service and will be expected to be fully involved in all aspects of the patients care. The student will be a member of the Maternal Fetal Medicine service team and participate in all aspects of MFM practice both inpatient and outpatient. The student will have primary responsibility of assigned MFM patients under MFM faculty supervision. The student will be responsible for admission history and physical exam, formulate a diagnostic plan, differential diagnosis, order labs and review results, actively participate in ultrasonography, treatment plan including writing orders, and participate in procedures including deliveries and discharge planning. The student will be required to attend one half-day MFM outpatient clinic and attend weekly educational conferences. Call is not required.

Objectives
:

1. Students will be exposed to the management of complicated obstetrical patients as described above.
2. Student will be able to further develop and refine their ability to perform H&Ps and formulate an appropriate differential diagnosis while participating in their daily care.
3. Student will develop an understanding of maternal and fetal physiology and the psychological and social impact of the patient?s disease.
4. Student will participate in educational conferences including morning report, daily topic presentation, educational rounds on inpatient service, and weekly grand rounds.

Evaluation
:
The student will preround on their assigned patients. They will be expected to present their patients during morning sit down rounds in a clear and concise manner. The student will also present a topic of their choice relevant to the patient they are following to the MFM team (attending, MFM resident). A formal evaluation will be completed after receiving feedback from the resident on service and attending. Students will be required to keep a logbook of all patients seen throughout the course of this elective.

:
Successful completion of ALL third-year clerkships.
